How to read these wait times

Each crossing shows the wait CBP reports to reach the primary inspection booth when entering the United States. Cars are split into the General lane, SENTRI (trusted travelers only) and Ready Lane (RFID-enabled documents). Pedestrians have General and, at some crossings, Ready Lane. Grey means the lane is closed, CBP has not posted a time yet, or the reading is more than 3 hours old.

Open any crossing to see the last 24 hours, the typical wait for each hour of the day and the best time to cross, calculated from our own history of CBP readings.

Frequently asked questions

Where do these wait times come from?

From the public Border Wait Times data published by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for each land port of entry. We check it every 15 minutes and show the time of each CBP reading.

How often are the times updated?

CBP updates each crossing roughly once an hour. Each wait time shows the time of the reading and how long ago it was, so you can tell if it is recent.

What are SENTRI and Ready Lane?

SENTRI lanes are only for members of the SENTRI trusted traveler program. Ready Lanes are for travelers whose documents have an RFID chip, such as the Border Crossing Card, US passport card or SENTRI card.

Are there wait times for driving into Mexico?

No. CBP only publishes northbound times (entering the United States). Southbound times are not part of this data.

Do you show Canada–US border wait times?

Yes. We show CBP wait times to enter the US at the 30 Canada–US crossings CBP reports, from British Columbia to New Brunswick. Where the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) publishes it, we also show the wait to enter Canada.

How accurate are these wait times?

They are CBP estimates of the time to reach the primary inspection booth. Actual waits can vary with traffic, inspections or incidents, so use them as a guide.
